Modernism

Granollers

Granollers city is located in the centre of Vallès Oriental. This city is the capital of the county. Its privileged geographic location has always helped agriculture and especially commercial development. There are some remains from the Roman times when it became crossroads and market of agricultural products. The present city has a medieval foundation and it developed around the church of Sant Esteve and the old way to Barcelona. Its commercial characteristics are consolidated by a weekly street market that takes place under the roof of La Porxada (1586 - 1587), which is nowadays the symbol of the city. It is a modern city that has grown as a commercial centre. At the beginning of the twentieth century some residential and public buildings were built, most of them by Raspall, the municipal architect from 1907.

Nowadays, Granollers keeps an important economic activity, out of which commerce is still an outstanding sector.
